KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Friday directed the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to thoroughly investigate the killing of a woman by mobsters in Kabul.
The incident took place when a woman set fire to the Holy Quran here.
In a statement from his office, the president ordered the constitution of a commission, including religious scholars to probe the murder from different angles.
His administration was duty-bound to protect Islamic values and all laws of Afghanistan were in based on religious teachings, the president said.
“No one would be allowed either to take the law into their hands or punish anyone. Acts of mob justice are contrary to the teachings of Sharia,” he remarked.
Afghanistan condemned all actions that brought a bad name to Islam, the president said. “As Muslims, we are obliged to respect the Holy Quran …”
Earlier in the day, interior ministry spokesman Siddique Siddiqui told Pajhwok Afghan News police had arrested four people for their alleged involvement in the killing.
Killing a person without due legal process is a serious crime, the spokesman admitted, saying police had started an investigation into the incident.
