LASHKARGAH (PAN): A tribal elder was killed on Wednesday and seven others were wounded in two separate blasts in the restive province of Helmand, officials said.
The tribal elder was killed Wednesday morning when he stepped on a land mine in the Changir area of Nad Ali district, a member of district council, Muhammad Omar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Haji Abdul Aziz was returning from the mosque to his house when the incident occurred, he added.
Separately, seven people, including three children, were wounded on Tuesday evening when a bomb exploded in Grishk district of the province, district police chief, 1st Lt. Zamaray Khan, said.
The incident took place as a police vehicle was passing the area, but no one police were hurt, he said.
The injured were evacuated to Grishk and Kandahar civil hospitals, however he had no information about their health status.
The powerful explosion smashed the window-panes of nearby houses and shops, said a resident of the area, Hidayatullah.
