German-led PRT offices comes under rocket attackBy Waheedullah Sep 11, 2010 - 20:59
KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): Suspected Taliban militants fired several rockets at the German-led Provincial Reconstruction Team office in northern Badakhshan province, the team said on Saturday.
The attack in Faizabad, the provincial capital, came hours after protesters angry over a threat from a Florida church to burn copies of the Quran tried to storm the PRT office on Friday.
One person was killed and six others wounded when security personnel guarding the office gate opened fire on the crowd.
Four rockets landed inside the PRT building, the group's media office in Kunduz city, capital of Kunduz province, said in a statement.
It said there were no casualties, but the building was partially damaged.
Badakhshan's police chief said the attack could have been a reaction to the American church's threat to burn the holy book. The church has since said it would not go though with its plan.
Police said they had arrested two people who they said were the instigators of violence during the protest.
