FAIZABAD (PAN): Relief items were distributed to nearly 156 families displaced by rockslides in Yaftal district of northwestern Badakhshan province on Sunday, officials said.
Red Cross head for Badakhshan, Syed Nasir Himmat, told Pajhwok Afghan News the assistance was distributed by the Red Cross and the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS).
The assistance included 156 kitchen sets, 100 plastic sheets, eight tents, 700 blankets, 312 water barrels, 200 towels, 300 detergent bars, 400 soaps and 700 veils.
Regional ARCS head, Dr. Shahzada Musazai, said a mobile medical team had already been dispatched to the Pista Kalan village.
Ehluddin, head of the village development council, said the rockslides had rendered many families homeless in the village, where two children aged between 7 and 13 lost their lives as a result of a respiratory disease and cold weather.
Yaftal district chief, Muhammad Barat, said the crack in the mountain in Pista Kalan was enlarging day by day, scaring residents away from homes.
