IEC to announce election results tomorrowBy Pajhwok Report Oct 16, 2010 - 17:21
KABUL (PAN): The election body will announce the overall results of the Wolesi Jirga election on Sunday, however, the fraud panel has to go through all reported irregularities and certify the votes, officials said on Saturday.
Ninety percent of the primary results have been revealed until Saturday and the remaining portion would be published online in the next 24 hours, said the spokesman the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Noor Muhammad Noor.
"We are determined to announce the results of the remaining 35 polling centres, which includes the entire 34 provinces and nomad Kuchis by tomorrow," Noor told Pajhwok Afghan News.
As of now, Panjshir is the only province where all the votes have been counted and Nuristan is the only province where no partial results have been announced on the IEC website.
The delay in Nuristan, according Noor, was due to late arrival of the ballots.
The primary results were slated to be announced a week ago, but it was postponed by the IEC to review the irregularities.
