KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A US soldier with the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) shot dead an Afghan policeman in southern Kandahar province Thursday noon, a source revealed.

The shooting happened as a result of an exchange of harsh words between the two at the provincial police headquarters at about 1pm, an insider confided to Pajhwok Afghan News.

A spokesman for the governor, confirming the incident, said the policeman succumbed to his injuries on his way to Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar City. A joint Afghan-ISAF team was probing the death, Zalmay Ayubi added.

In Kabul, the ISAF Public Affairs Office also said it was jointly investigating the incident with Afghan police. More information would be released after the investigation, the multinational force said in a brief statement.
