Sacrificial meat distributed to poor families in WardakBy Pajhwok Report Nov 18, 2010 - 17:00
MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): The Turkish provincial reconstruction team (PRT) distributed 18,480 kilograms of sacrificial meat to vulnerable and poor people coming from across the central province of Maidan Wardak, the team said on Thursday.
The meat, costing $110,000, was provided to people on the first and second day of Eiduld Azha, the PRT said in a statement. The list of poor people was already prepared by the Governor's Office, it said.
During the distribution, in Saidabad district, provincial police chief, Haq Nawaz Haqyar and the Turkish PRT coordinator, Alp ISIKLI, were present.
However, the process of distributing meat to destitute families in other districts was carried out by members of the provincial council in coordination with a commission setup by the governor's office.
"This assistance is a sign of brotherhood and cooperation of Turkish people with Afghan people," the statement said.
