Two militants killed, four commanders held
MAZAR-I-SHARIF/LASHKARGAH (PAN): Two Taliban fighters were killed and a third wounded, while four commanders arrested in Helmand and Faryab provinces, officials said on Monday.
Two insurgents were killed and another wounded during a clash touched off by a rebel attack on a police checkpoint in Qisar district of Faryab late Sunday night.
Provincial police spokesman, Syed Masoud Yaqubi said, police recovered a Kalashnikov from the insurgents.
In southern Helmand province, four Taliban leaders were arrested in Nad Ali district. In the provincial capital, Lashkargah, they were shown to journalists.
The detained commanders are Mullah Noor Ahmad, known as Mullah Arab, Mullah Rahmatullah, alias Armani, Mullah Asadullah, known as Faryadi, and Mullah Ezatullah, said the Helmand intelligence chief, Nazar Ali Wahidi.
Four Kalashnikovs, as many hand grenades, four roadside bombs, three pistols, two motorbikes and a car were seized from the commanders, who have reportedly confessed to involvement in the insurgency.
