CHARIKAR (PAN): The United Arab Emirates donated food items and warm clothing to hundreds of deserving families in central Kapisa province on Monday, an official said.
All the 1,500 families had been identified by community councils and officials, a representative of the UAE embassy, Abdul Malik Safi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Each family was provided about 50 kilograms of flour, 10 kg of sugar, 10 kg of beans, five kg of ghee, one pair of shoes and jackets, he said.
"Such assistance in the winter is very helpful," said one of the aid recipients, Nasima, 37. The mother of three children, who lost her husband during the Taliban era, hoped that the food items would help meet their needs for a month.
Acting Governor Muhamamd Sharif said that the aid was distributed to destitute families across the province. Efforts to attract more aid were ongoing, he added.
