Karzai condemns Jalalabad attack
The incident erupted soon after seven gunmen, wearing military uniforms and suicide vests, forced their way into the building in the Mokhabirat Square in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Nangarhar province.
At least two powerful explosions happened in front of the private bank, shaking the city and shattering windowpanes in nearby buildings. Several senior police officials were killed and wounded in the blast.
Karzai strongly condemned the attack, a statement from the Presidential Palace said. "The insurgents targeted people who were receiving salaries or doing other personal things," he said.
The attack had once again proved that the militants did not want Afghans to live in peace, the president added.
Meanwhile, the US embassy and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force also denounced the assault, claimed by the Taliban insurgents.
