Two staffers killed in Kabul Bank attack
At least 40 people were killed and 73 others injured in the Taliban assault, involving five gunmen wearing military uniforms and suicide vests.
The assailants forced their way into the building in the Mokhabirat Square in Jalalabad at 11.30am, when government officials were waiting to receive salaries.
Two powerful explosions happened in front of the private bank, killing several police officials, wounding many others and shattering windowpanes in nearby buildings.
A cook and an air-conditioning unit technician of the private bank were killed and 10 other staff members wounded in the incident, said Kabul Bank's deputy chief, Mir Azizi.
A team has been sent to Jalalabad to assess the financial losses caused by the attack, according to Azizi, who said the branch's head was among the injured.
