Former chief justice laid to rest in Jalalabad
A renowned religious scholar, Shinwari died due to a brain hemorrhage in India on Monday. He was 83. Funeral prayers for him were also offered at the Presidential Palace in Kabul.
Born in Haska Mina village of Shinwari district, he was buried in the Najmul Jihad Families' graveyard in Jalalabad. Parliamentarians, provincial council members, religious scholars and tribal elders attended his funeral.
Shinwari was appointed chief justice in the transitional government of President Hamid Karzai in 2002, and he stayed in the same post until 2007. He had been head of the ulema council for the last nine years.
