1.5 tonnes of drugs torched in Faryab
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN): About 1.5 tonnes of narcotics were torched and 24 suspect smugglers arrested in the northern Faryab province, an official said on Wednesday.
The drugs, including 1,465 kilograms of opium, 25 kg of hashish and 5 kg of heroin, were set ablaze late Tuesday, police spokesman, Lt. Sayed Masoud Yaqubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The 24 individuals, arrested on the charge of narcotics smuggling, had been handed to the judicial organs, he said. Nine pieces of weapons were also recovered from the suspects, he added.
Most of the drugs, brought into Faryab from Balkh, were to be sent to western Herat province before being sent abroad.
