5 bird hunters killed in ISAF airstrike
MEHMOOD RAQI (PAN): International troops killed five hunters during an airstrike in central Kapisa province, officials said on Thursday.
The incident happened in Darah Shpai valley of Alasai district on Wednesday night when ISAF aircraft bombed the hunters who had made a fire to attract pigeons and partridges.
It was the fire that caused foreign soldiers to mistake the hunters for militants, Alasai district chief, Mullah Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Najibullah Rahimi, a Kapisa provincial council member, confirmed the killings and said the victims had gone to Darah Shpai for hunting.
Most huntsmen come to the area at night and sell their catch in the morning, said Dil Aqa, a resident of the valley, who heard the overnight bombardment.
But the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) media office in Kabul was unaware of the airstrike and said they investigate the incident.
