Hakimi presents his credentials to Obama
WASHINGTON (PAN): The new Afghan ambassador to the US, Ahmad Hakimi, has presented his credentials to the President Barack Obama, at the White House.
During the brief ceremony on Wednesday, Obama and Hakimi discussed the relationship between Afghanistan and the United States. They also agreed to hold a joint video teleconference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
“The more we interact face-to -face, by phone or (video teleconference), the more our diplomats in Washington will be able to execute our mandated mission to strengthen our partnership with the United States,” Hakimi said in remarks to Embassy staff, on his return from the ceremony.
The ambassador was accompanied to the ceremony by his wife, Sultana, and his daughters, Sameena and Sabiha.
Hakimi had served as deputy foreign minister of Afghanistan and as Afghan ambassador to Japan and China.
