Hundreds of policemen complete training

Feb 24, 2011 - 18:35

GARDEZ/TIRINKOT (PANinfo-icon): Up to 322 policemen completed their training at police academies in southeastern Paktia and central Uruzgan provinces on Thursday, officials said.

In Gardez, the capital of Paktia, 123 policemen graduated from a six-week training course central to the improvement of security in urban areas, the 505th Spin Ghar Zone police commander, Maj. Gen. Nabi Gul Ahmadzai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The commander said the already well-equipped police contingent was taught at the special training workshop that how could they play their part in strengthening security.

Two months ago, 119 policemen graduated from the Gardez police training academy, but there has been no improvement in the security situation so far.

Elsewhere, 119 policemen completed a training course at the police training academy in Tirinkot, the capital of Uruzgan province, an official said.

The newly graduated policemen would be deputed at various parts of the province to provide security for their respective areas, the provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Juma Gul Himmat, said.

At the graduation ceremony, Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad urged the policemen to serve their country and people with devotion.

One of the graduates, Saifullah Khan, said he learnt many new things of which he was unaware in the past.
