2 hurt in Badakhshan filling station fire
FAIZABAD (PAN): Two people were wounded when a fire broke out at a private filling station in northeastern Badakhshan province on Saturday, an official said.
Workers at the pump station in Faizabad, the provincial capital, were emptying oil from a container when the fire erupted due to a generator short circuit.
The injured were taken to hospital for treatment, owner of the station, Sayed Jamal, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Jamal estimated his financial losses at 2.259 million afghanis ($50,000)
The blaze spread panic among residents of nearby houses. Sultan Mohammad, a resident, said the fire was brought under control in two hours.
Badakhshan deputy police chief, Brig. Gen. Sayed Hussain Safawi, said that timely action by the fire brigade personnel prevented more damage.
