MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PANinfo-icon): Two spectators were killed and 25 others injured on Saturday when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives during a popular sportinfo-icon competition in the northern Faryab province, an official said.

The afternoon attack happened at a Buzkashiinfo-icon ground in Shirin Tagab district, Sayed Loqman Ghorak, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Faryab police spokesman, Lt. Sayed Masoud, said a man and a teenage boy were killed and 25 others, including five children, wounded in the explosion.

Public healthinfo-icon director, Dr. Abdul Ali Haleem, said the wounded individuals were taken to the district hospital and seven of them were in serious condition. Two of the critically injured were referred to the provincial hospital.

Abdul Sami, a spectator, said the Faryab police chief, his deputy and some policemen had also come to watch the game. The bomber detonated his explosives among the people, failing to reach the police officials.

However, the police spokesman said that there were no security officials at the ground and the attack was launched to strike fear into people's hearts.

Ghorak said body parts of the bomber were scattered at the scene. The attacker seemed to be a 16-year-old boy, Ghorak added. "All the victims were civilians. We ask the insurgents to stop killing innocent people."
