KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai congratulated Wolesi Jirga members on electing their new speaker on Sunday, almost a month after the lower house was inaugurated.

“I congratulate you on the election of Kunduz representative, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, as the speaker of the assembly,” the president said in a statement.

Ibrahimi was twice elected by Kunduz residents as their representative in Parliament. He is one of the influential elders from Imam Sahib district, Karzai said, wishing the Uzbek community member success as speaker.
