Two suspected rebels killed, several detained
Mullah Faizullah, accused of distributing weapons and funding insurgent activities, was killed by Afghan and NATO-led forces in Tarnak Wa Jaldak district on Saturday, the alliance said in a statement.
While raiding a compound in the district, the joint force saw a fighter fleeing with an object slung on his shoulder. The suspect was shot dead when he turned toward the security forces and threatened them.
Elsewhere in the south, Afghan and coalition forces detained a Taliban weapons facilitator and several suspected fighters in Qalat, capital of Zabul province.The facilitator was involved in supplying weapons for attacks against security forces.
Multiple AK-47s, a machine gun, 15 chest racks and ammunition were seized during the operation, the multinational force said.
Four militants, including two vehicle-borne improvised explosive device facilitators, were arrested n Kandahar City.The facilitators were responsible for coordinating the construction and use of car bombs for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
Also in Kandahar, Afghan and coalition forces completed a clearing operation in Tangai and Mian villages of Shah Wali Kot district, a facilitation route to move weapons and IEDs into Kandahar City and elsewhere.
Sixteen compounds suspected of insurgent activity were cleared and two fighting positions, as well as a bunker, destroyed.
Several suspects were detained during an operation in Nahr-i-Saraj district of Helmand province, where Afghan and coalition forces targeted a Taliban leader. The munitions facilitator operates in Lashkargah, where he coordinates attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.
