4 ANA soldiers, interpreter killed in Logar blast
PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Four Afghan soldiers and an interpreter for foreign troops were killed in a blast in the central province of Logar, officials said on Tuesday.
The explosion took place on Monday evening near an Afghan National Army (ANA) checkpoint in Charkh district bazaar, the governor's spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwaish, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Four ANA soldiers and an interpreter were killed in the explosion, he said.
Charkh district chief, Abdul Ghayas Malakzai, confirmed the blast, but he gave no further details.
Residents said the soldiers had established a checkpoint in a shop in the bazaar and that the bomb had exploded near their checkpoint.
The exact number of casualties was not clear because security personnel had cordoned off the area, they said.
Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the blast. Five Afghan and foreign soldiers and their interpreter were killed and six others injured in the blast, he said.
