Taliban shoot 4 for spying in North Waziristan

Mar 01, 2011 - 12:14

ISLAMABAD(PANinfo-icon):  Talibaninfo-icon insurgents killed four people for allegedly spying on behalf of the US in North Waziristan, a tribal region of Pakistaninfo-icon close to the Afghan border, an official said on Tuesday.

The dead bodies were found on a roadside on Tuesday morning in Datakhel area on the outskirts of Miranshah town, an official in the town, Mohammad Imran, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The people were accused of spying for US troops, he said.

The identity of the victims was not clear but Imran said he suspected they were residents of the area, who were beaten before being shot in the chest and head.

It was not the first time the Taliban had killed people for spying for US and Pakistani forces, a resident of the area, Malak Faqeer, said.

A letter was also found with bodies that accused the victims of spying and warned anyone else who carried out the same activities that they too would meet the same fate, he said.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the murders.
