2 of 7 abducted policemen freed in Kunar
JALALABAD (PAN): Two of seven policemen held hostage by the Taliban have been freed after three weeks in captivity in eastern Kunar province, a police official in neighbouring Nuristan province said on Wednesday.
The Taliban seized seven policemen over the past three weeks during two separate incidents. The captives came from Nuristan and had been captured while traveling through Kunar province to Nangarhar province, he said.
The Want Waigal district police chief in Nuristan, Akhtar Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the two freed policemen had been kidnapped in the Manogi district of Kunar on their way to Nangarhar three weeks ago and were released on Tuesday. Five other policemen were still being held captive by the insurgents, he added.
The Taliban have said nothing so far about the release of the two security officials.
