KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The new academic year in cold provinces of the country would start on March 22 due to incessant snowfalls and rains, the Ministry of Educationinfo-icon announced on Wednesday.

Previously, officials had said the year for seventh to 12th grade students would start on March 6.

The decision was taken because students would face problems due to rains and snowfalls, a spokesman for the ministry, Abdul Saboor Ghofrani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The year would start simultaneously at all state-run and private educational institutions in the cold provinces, he said. Double-promotion and compartment examinations that started on Feb. 20 will continue until March 5.
