Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, involving participants from more than 500 law schools in over 80 countries,is the world's largest event of its kind.
The competition among Law and Shariah Faculties of Kabul, Al Biruni, Herat, Nangarhar and Balkh provinces started four months back.
In the final at Kabul Court of Appeals, Kabul outperformed Al Biruni and qualified for the competition, where they will compete with 80 other teams.
Ambassador Hanns Klemm, coordinating director of rule of law and law-enforcement, told participants such programmes were useful in terms of boosting capacity of university students.
He urged Afghans to spare no efforts for the welfare of their country.
Mursil Sherzad, a member of the Kabul team, said that they had a fair understanding of Afghan laws, but a trip to Washington would help them learn international law as well.
