Explosives-laden vehicle seized in Kandahar
KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): A vehicle rigged with 360 kilograms of explosives was seized in the Spin Boldak border town of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.
The vehicle with a Pakistani number plate was intercepted in Wesh area of the district Wednesday evening, the governor's spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The explosives in 45 boxes included 5,000 firecrackers and a 300 metres long safety fuse, he said. The driver was under interrogation, he said.
Kandahar security forces have recently stepped up searches of vehicle coming from Pakistan in a bid to thwart the smuggling of weapons to infiltration of insurgents.
