Key meeting on Afghanistan begins in Jeddah
Members of a high-level Afghan delegation are among the participants of the meeting being held at the headquarters of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the ministry said in a statement.
The conference is focused on assistance to Afghanistan from the international community and Muslim countries, the proposed security handover to Afghan forces, the reintegration programme.
Afghanistan is represented by Foreign Minister Zulmay Rasoul, High Peace Council head, Burhanuddin Rabbani, and its secretary, Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai, the statement added.
More than 50 OIC member countries are taking part in the conference. Rassoul will deliver a speech on achievements of the Afghan government during the last decade and cooperation from the international community, especially OIC.
"Member states are expected to take part in the meeting, which indicates the active involvement by the OIC and its members to resolve the Afghan issue," the organisation said.
OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has repeatedly underlined the group's commitment to peace, stability and socio-economic recovery in Afghanistan and its role in the country's reconciliation and reintegration process.
