Herat clash claims three lives
HERATCITY (PAN): Two Taliban fighters were killed during a clash in western Herat province, an official said on Friday. But the insurgents claimed killing several policemen, including a checkpoint commander, in the overnight attack.
The clash was triggered by a Taliban assault on a police post in Rabat Akhund area of Aab district, Syed Mohammad Maudoodi, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News. Two of the attackers and one policeman were killed, he said.
But a Taliban spokesman said the checkpoint commander was among six policemen killed in the assault. The militants took away three Kalashnikovs, a machine gun and ammunitions, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said. Six police motorbikes were torched, he added.
