5 detained for aiding Pakistani bombers
ZARANJ (PAN): Five individuals were detained on the charge of aiding would-be suicide bombers in the western province of Farah, officials said on Saturday.
The men were detained during a raid by intelligence operatives in the fourth police district of Farah City on Friday evening, a National Directorate of Security (NDS) official said.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity that two suicide vests, three Kalashnikovs, 20 kilograms of explosives and a remote-controlled device were recovered during the raid on two houses.
Staying with the detainees, two Pakistani suicide bombers fled the area before the operation, the source added. The raid was conducted by intelligence agents, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Syed Mohammad Roshandil, said without elaborating.
Five suspected militants were arrested last week during a police operation in Bala Baluk district of the province. Weapons, hand grenades and military uniforms were recovered from them.
