SHARAN (PANinfo-icon): A dozen civilians were killed and five others wounded in a powerful bomb explosion in the southeastern province of Paktika on Sunday, the governor's office said.

The casualties happened when a passenger coach struck a roadside bomb in Wazikhwa district at 10am, a statement from the governor house said. The dead included womeninfo-icon and children.

The victims were on their way to Sharan, the provincial capital, from Quetta city of Pakistaninfo-icon's southwestern Balochistan province. The injured were taken to an ISAFinfo-icon medical facility in the area.

According to the statement, the injured are in stable condition. The Talibaninfo-icon insurgents were blamed for planting the bomb in Yousaf Narai area.

President Hamid Karzai, meanwhile, denounced the attack on the passenger vehicle. Most of the victims belonged to one family, said the president, who added the target were poor people who travelled from one area to another to eke out a living.

Karzai extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed to Allah shower His eternal blessings on the departed souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded individuals.
