Gold medal conferred on Sherzai
JALALABAD (PAN): The Nangarhar governor received on Sunday a gold medal from a labour association in recognition of his services to the eastern province.
"The medal was conferred on Gul Agha Sherzai for his selfless services toward the province in areas of reconstruction and security," National Labourer Association head, Mohammad Zahir Kargar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The gold medal was conferred on Sherzai at a gathering in Jalalabad on Saturday evening. The event was also attended by a large number of tribal elders, Kargar said.
He said Sherzai had played a proactive role in implementation of development projects and improving security in the province. "He has spread a network of roads to all districts and turned Jalalabad into a modern city."
The association also gave appreciation letters to the National Directorate of Security chief for the province, border police commander and police chief for their efforts at maintaining security.
Sherzai told the gathering that he did not deserve the medal as he had to do more on the reconstruction front. "I will try to continue serving my countrymen," he promised.
A former provincial council member and tribal elder from Khogyani district, Tahir Omar, hailed award of the medal to the governor, but called appreciation letters for security officials "an act of flattery".
