Heavy snow blocks key route in Badghis
The ongoing snowfall started 10 days ago, stranding dozens of vehicles on both sides of the Sabzak road, a passenger, Kamaluddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News. "The route has been blocked since last night and we had to return to Badghis."
Passengers and residents could face severe problems if the busy road was not cleared of snow soon, Kamaluddin warned.
Public Works Director Eng. Maliha confirmed the area had received one metre of snow.
Efforts were being made to open the route, she said, adding a delegation had been sent to the area to assess the situation.
Located 80 kilometres from the provincial capital, Qala-i-Naw, the Sabzak route is the only one connecting Badghis to Herat and other provinces in the western zone.
