KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): The United States strongly condemned the killing of 10 Afghan civilians in an insurgent attack in Wazikhwa district of southeastern Paktika province on Sunday.

The victims were on their way to Sharan, the provincial capital, from Quetta city of Pakistaninfo-icon's southwestern Balochistan province. The injured were taken to an ISAFinfo-icon medical facility in the area.

"This brutal terrorist act demonstrates that the insurgents have no respect for human life," said a statement from the US embassy in Kabul.

The statement added: "We will continue to work closely with our Afghan partners to deliver security and a better future for Afghanistaninfo-icon."

President Hamid Karzai also denounced the attack. Most of the victims belonged to one family, said the president, who added the target were poor people who travelled from one area to another to eke out a living.
