US condemns Paktika blast
The casualties happened when a passenger coach struck a roadside bomb in Yousaf Narai area of the district at 10am. The dead included women and children, according to the governor's office.
"This brutal terrorist act demonstrates that the insurgents have no respect for human life," said a statement from the US embassy in Kabul.
The statement added: "We will continue to work closely with our Afghan partners to deliver security and a better future for Afghanistan."
President Hamid Karzai also denounced the attack. Most of the victims belonged to one family, said the president, who added the target were poor people who travelled from one area to another to eke out a living.
Karzai extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed to Allah shower His eternal blessings on the departed souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded individuals.
