Several militants killed, captured in Logar: ISAF
PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): Several suspected militants were killed and captured as a joint security force targeted a Taliban facilitator in central Logar province, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Tuesday.
"Both the captured and targeted facilitators are members of an improvised explosive device (IED) cell that frequently attacks Afghan and coalition forces," the NATO-led force said in a statement.
They were directly involved in placing a house-borne IED in the Charkh Bazaar on February 28, killing four Afghan soldiers, one coalition soldier and one civilian, the statement added.
While raiding compounds in Charkh district, Afghan and coalition soldiers they were confronted by a number of fighters. Security forces engaged the insurgents, killing and detaining several at both compounds.
Abdul Ghayas Malikzai, the district chief, confirmed the killing of a militant commander and arrest of another during the operation. The rebels planted roadside bombs, he said.
But a resident of the area, Ahmadullah, said that the foreign troops killed a civilian, Samar Gul, and arrested his son.
