Police vehicle slams into truck, killing 6 in Jawzjan
SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Six people, including two police officers and two suspected drug traffickers, were killed in an accident in the northern province of Jawzjan, officials said on Wednesday.
The accident took place Tuesday night, when a police vehicle crashed into a stationary truck on the Aqcha-Shiberghan highway, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Aziz Ghairat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Col. Sultan Mohammad, the counternarcotics department head of police, Lt. Col. Mohammad Asif, the drug department head of Aqcha district, and two drug traffickers were killed, he said.
The drug traffickers were detained in Aqcha on Tuesday in connection with 25 kilograms of opium and police had wanted to take them to Shiberghan, the provincial capital, he said.
The accident took place in Shor Arikh-i-Turmenia, traffic police department head, Col. Mohammad Ikram Elyar, said.
He blamed the driver of the police vehicle for the accident. The truck was stopped at the roadside due to technical problems and its driver had put up barricades, but the police driver did not see them, he said.
Police drivers generally travel fast without thinking about traffic rules, a resident of the area, Mohammad Khan, said.
