Mar 10, 2011 - 19:29

QALAT, LASHKARGAH (PANinfo-icon): Two Talibaninfo-icon fighters, including a commander, were killed during an operation by NATOinfo-icon-led troops in southern Zabul province, the alliance said on Thursday.

The Taliban commander killed in Shalmaz district on Wednesday night was responsible for planting roadside bombs and attacks on local and foreign forces, a statement issued by International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon), said.

A house was targeted during the operation, it said, adding some explosives and medical equipment were recovered from the house.

Police chief, Col. Abdul Malik, said the operation was carried out in a remote area and that he had no details.

Elsewhere, intelligence operatives seized some weapons in southern Helmand province, an official said on Thursday.

The 17 arms were recovered over the past one week during separate operations, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
