Acting Kunduz police chief appointed
KUNDUZ CITY(PAN): The 303rd Pamir Zone deputy commander, Ali Razayie, was appointed on Friday as acting police chief for northern Kunduz province, an official said.
The provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Syedkheli, was killed along with three others in a suicide attack near the police headquarters in the provincial capital, Kunduz City, late on Thursday night.
Nine policemen were wounded in the attack, as the bomber jumped on a police contingent in the city. Syedkheli wanted to speak with municipality officials about preparations for the Afghan new year "Nawroz" before he was assassinated.
Ali Razayie has been made acting police chief, the 303rd Pamir Zone commander, Gen. Mohammad Daud Daud, told a press conference.
Governor Mohammad Anwar Jagdalak strongly condemned the suicide blast that also killed a woman inside her house, increasing the death toll to five.
As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying 18 policemen were killed and several others wounded.
