56 tonnes of drugs torched in Kandahar
KANDAHARCITY (PAN): Illicit drugs weighing 56 tonnes, seized over the past one year, were set on fire in southern Kandahar province on Saturday.
A ceremony held in this connection was attended by interior ministry and local security officials in Kandahar City, the provincial capital.
The drugs included 115 kilograms of heroin, 100 kg of opium, 4,412 kg of hashish, 22,120 litres of acid and 23,000 kg of chemicals used in processing narcotics.
Gen. Salim Ehsas, the commander of the 404th Maiwand Zone police, said 2,450 kg of ammonium nitrate, 72 litres of alcohol and 227 strips of intoxicating tablets were also torched.
