US asked to drop idea of permanent bases

US asked to drop idea of permanent bases

Mar 12, 2011 - 20:21

KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): A political party called "Islami Aqdar" on Saturday voiced opposition to the proposed US military bases in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The opposition to a permanent US military presence in the country came at a gathering of about 200 party activists in Kabul.

The Islami Aqdar leader, Ahmad Shah Ahmadzai, said the presence of foreign forces -- particularly Americans -- has never brought peace to any country of the worldinfo-icon. "How they would bring peace here?" Ahmadzai asked.

"We have seen the presence of US forces in Afghanistan over the past nine years remained a major reason behind increasing violence and their further stay means more Afghan deaths," the politician said.

Participants of the assembly issued a resolution, asking the US government to pull out its army from Afghanistan as soon as possible and drop of the idea of permanent bases.
