Five rebels killed in Kunar airstrike: ISAF
Coalition forces on the ground monitored the men for several hours to ensure positive identification and intent of the individuals prior to calling for close air support, the NATO-led force said.
"The insurgents killed were in possession of automatic weapons and were digging to emplace a mortar tube," said a statement from the NATO-led force. There were no reports of injuries to civilians.
More than 60 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the same district during a Feb. 18 raid by coalition troops.
