10 dead in Waziristan drone strikesBy Pakhtun Khan Shinwari Mar 14, 2011 - 12:48
ISLAMABAD(PAN): Ten suspected militants were killed in two US drone attacks in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region of North Waziristan, officials said on Monday.
Four fighters died in a missile strike on their vehicle on the Razmak road, 10 kilometres east of Miranshah, the agency headquarters, a government official told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Fazli Malik said the missile strike in the Ashdar village destroyed the vehicle and killed all its occupants. The raid was confirmed by villagers, who said the dead were tribal fighters.
Late on Sunday night, six insurgents were killed and five others wounded during similar strikes on a Taliban hideout and a car in the Spalga village, 13 kilometres northeast of Miranshah.
Despite strong protests from the government in Islamabad, CIA-operated drone raids -- part of a covert US campaign against Pakistani Taliban -- have killed nearly 100 people since January 1.
