Ghor to host conference of donors
More than 70 organisations from donor countries, officials from embassies and ministries would participate in the conference, Ghor governor, Abdullah Hiwad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
"In order to let the donors, embassy and government officials know the situation, we will hold this conference, as a result of which serious steps for improvement of security will be taken," he said.
Residents of Ghor province have complained about the lack of reconstruction and development projects. Optimistic about the results of the conference, residents said new projects would provide job opportunities.
"This conference will be useful only when local officials can attract funds from donors and provide plans that can meet the security demands of donors," Mohammad Amin Saqi, a resident, said. The Afghan government has not paid attention to Ghor in the last eight years, he said.
Residents of Ghor need roads, electricity, job opportunities and want to see positive changes in their lives, he said. "I hope this conference will help the people," he said.
