Thirty-seven inmates freed from Herat jail
The individuals, who had completed a third of their jail terms, had been held in connection with different crimes, deputy jail superintendent, Col. Habibullah Nazari, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Six other inmates would also be freed soon, said deputy head of the prosecutor's office, Gul Ahmad Ramesh. Several other prisoners would be granted remission of sentences in compliance with Karzai's decree that was issued on Prophet Mohammad's (PBUH) birth anniversary.
On Dec. 22, 2010, 113 prisoners, including eight women, had been freed on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha, the Muslim festival that marks the climax of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
