QALA-I-NAW (PANinfo-icon): Gunmen kidnapped a tribal elder in western Badghis province, officials said on Monday.

The tribal elder, Mohammad Sarwar, was kidnapped from Abgarmi district on Sunday night by a commander, Noor Mohammad, Badghis police chief, Col. Abdul Jabar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He blamed the abduction on personal enmity.

Other tribal elders had been asked to help in the mediation effort, he said.

According to Jabar, the kidnappers took Sarwar to Chagazi area of Abgarmi district.

Nooruddin, 33, Sarwar’s son, said that Mohammad was also one of their relatives.

The kidnappers have demanded money for his father’s release, he said, without mentioning the exact amount.
