Surkh-i-Parsa announced as peace district in Parwan
Seven commanders surrendered 38 weapons to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups, Gen. Jalaluddin, the head of the provincial office of the DIAG, said.
The weapons include kalashnikovs, rocket launchers, machineguns and pistols, he said.
Parwan governor, Abdul Basir Salangi, said the surrender of illegal weapons was a significant step, adding that now, development projects worth $300,000 (13.5 million afghanis) would be launched in the district.
Abdul Qahar, a former jihadi commander who surrendered three weapons, said: “We do not need weapons anymore.”
According to Jalaluddin, over the past six years, about 2,700 weapons and 65 tonnes of ammunition had been collected in the province.
