KABULinfo-icon(PANinfo-icon): The Attorney General's Office on Wednesday said it had 'red-handed' arrested three security officials for extorting money from people in Kabul.

The detainees, including two Afghan soldiers and a policeman, were arrested in the jurisdiction of fifth police station, Amanullah Iman, a spokesman for the Attorney General's Office, told a press conference.

However, the Ministry of Defence in a statement said the ministry had its own prosecution office and the suspects should be handed over to them.

But Iman asked the ministry not to interfere into the matter.

Elsewhere, a joint Afghan-international force arrested eight people during an operation in Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province, the governor spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, said

The district chief, Nimatullah Norzai, said the operation was conducted at 1am on Wednesday.

He also said intelligence operatives arrested two people in the same district for arm smuggling.

Without saying anything about the operation in Bati Kot, the International Security Assistance Force in a statement said a number of suspects were arrested in Khugyani district of the province.
