Taliban kidnap surrendered fighters
ASADABAD (PAN): Taliban insurgents destroyed the house of a commander who had surrendered to the government and kidnapped nine former fighters in eastern Kunar province, the commander said on Wednesday
Taliban commander Arsala Khan and 37 of his fighters joined the peace process on March 1 and surrendered 20 weapons.
“A local Taliban commander, Bakhtialay, burned my house and garden on Tuesday in Argal of Ghazi Abad district,” Khan said.
He said the insurgents took away nine of his friends who had also joined the peace process.
Khan said he reported the incident to local governmental officials and asked for better security.
Kunar police chief, Khalilullah Ziayie, said he was not aware of the issue.
However, the intelligence department in Kunar confirmed the kidnapping and financial losses to the former commander.
