Pakistani engineers among 5 kidnapped in Jawzjan
SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Gunmen have abducted five engineers, including two Pakistanis, working on a UN funded road project in the northern province of Jawzjan, police said on Friday.
The five were traveling in a car on the Sar-i-Pul-Shiberghan highway when they were intercepted by armed men in Zaka area on Thursday night, deputy police chief, Col. Mohammad Ibrahim, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the engineers, without informing local police, travelled toward Shiberghan, the provincial capitial, after completing their work.
The abductees had been working on a road construction project in Balkhab district over the past two months, a UNDP employee, said on condition of anonymity.
"Two of them are Pakistanis and the three Afghans," he said.
No one has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction.
