MAIDAN SHAHR (PANinfo-icon): A Talibaninfo-icon leader and two sons of another militant leader associated with the Hizb-i-Islami Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) have been arrested by security forces in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Friday.
The Taliban group leader identified as Mohammad Omar was held on Friday during a joint operation by personnel from International Security Assistance Force, Afghan National Army, the National Directorate of Security and police in Dadal area of Narkh district, the governor's spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The detainee was involved in terrorist activities in the area, he said.

The two others, sons of a HIA commander, Azizullah, were arrested in Karimdada area of the district, the gubernatorial spokesman said. The father had managed to flee, he added. Two AK-47s were recovered from the detainees.

A resident of Karimdad area, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Afghan and foreign troops conducted a pre-dawn raid on Azizullah's residence and took away his two sons. He confirmed the rebel leader was not at home at the time of the raid.
