Civil order police get headquarters

Mar 19, 2011 - 18:22

GARDEZ (PANinfo-icon): A newly-constructed building for a local police headquarters was inaugurated in Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province, the governor's office said on Saturday.

Funded by the US-led Provincial Reconstructioninfo-icon Team, the structure cost $13 million (587.6 million afghanis) and took 22 months to complete, the governor's office said in a statement.

The project, providing work opportunities to 250 people, was implemented by a Turkish construction company, it added. The new building had the capacity to accommodate 350 personnel.

The governor, Juma Khan Hamdard, thanked residents of the district for their cooperation in keeping security for the project. “The only way to solve our problems is educationinfo-icon and we have to make efforts at educating our youth,” the statement quoted Hamdard as saying at the inaugural ceremony.

A tribal elder, Zahir, hoped the security situation would further improve in the relatively peaceful district of Paktia with the establishment of the civil order police headquarters.
